KAFTAN + DAYBED SEASON

July 8, 2024

Dear Community,

This email goes out to my friend Erika of Lumenrose Jewelry. Erika and I met on a dubstep dance floor in an underground San Francisco club in 2006. Honestly our meeting is a personal beacon of inspiration, reminding me what’s possible when I choose courage over fear.

The venue was small. There were maybe 15 of us on the dance floor…my friend and I were going outside for a breath of fresh air. Erika was there alone. I thought she looked cool, so I went up to her and asked if she wanted to join us outside. Well…

18 YEARS OF FRIENDSHIP LATER, that courage to say hello paid off, and I’m sending her a voice memo from the daybed telling her that I’m thinking about writing a newsletter called “KAFTAN AND DAYBED SEASON” …but that it feels more like an instagram caption than newsletter worthy content.

Erika said WRITE THE NEWSLETTER. (accompanied by some convincing arguments)….

(Before I move on to daybeds and kaftans, may I just say- Say hello to the cool person. It might just work out to be a forever friendship. 🫶🏼 )

then + now:

So! Here I am, in my element! Live and direct from the daybed, in a kaftan!

Birds are chirping, curtains are billowing in the breeze, pillows are pillowing… in other words Mari is definitely Mu-ing

The warm season is officially here, and I am sooo into it. I looove the feeling of warm air on my skin, and taking long evening walks without being bundled up.

Almost every afternoon in these warmer months I come have a lounge in the daybed, and think “this is one of the best investments I’ve made!” (In the winter months that’s what I say about the sauna ;)

I originally built this daybed in 2019 for my journey clients, in case they wanted to come outside during the journey but still be in a soft cozy space.

I looked at daybeds online, but decided it would be more fun and meaningful to make one myself. This was my first ever woodworking project!

My dad helped me design the structure, even entertaining my desire to make a 1 ft model in his woodshop the month before I did my own build. (look how cute it is!)

The daybed is not only a piece of outdoor furniture, but it’s a symbol.

A symbol of…

  • having a vision and bringing it to life

  • learning how to do new things and getting support to do so

  • the value of spaces designed solely for rest and pleasure

a dream

come true

This is by and large my favorite space on this property.

You are ALWAYS welcome to lounge in the daybed after your craniosacral session to give yourself more time to transition before hitting the road. I HIGHLY recommend it!

(Also if anyone is ever interested in building your own, I can tell you everything I learned along the way, or help you build it!)

I am so grateful to be able to share my sweet sanctuary with you.

with love,

your mari mu
