Step right up folks let’s talk about one of my favorite topics.

First of all, we often use the word in relation to physical/sexual connection. That’s not what we’re gonna talk about today though my guess is that whatever I might explore here applies there too.

I’ve had 3 conversations in the last week with entirely different focuses tones and flavors, where I heard the same sentiment expressed. To distill it down:

“I want to go deeper with others, and I don’t know exactly what that looks like for me, but I want to learn”.

When I hear this expressed, my entire being lights up. I say Yeeeeesssss!! What DOES that mean for you?! LET’S EXPLORE!

If I have a favorite hobby and passion, it’s going deep. Gimme the realreal, and I’ll give you mine. (I can also start us off ;)

Now, all of this being said, of course we aren’t gonna go to the same level of depth with everyone in our life. We get to use our *healthy discernment* around how deep we want to go with different people, Le Duh.

…but I think overall, our societal norms around vulnerability and quality of connection could use a dose of expansion and development.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again:

exhibit A: “how are you” “i’m good” -

are you kidding me??? I am soooo much more than good. I am the entire universe experiencing itself for godssake!!! I am light and dark and the entire rainbow spectrum!!! I am a human being in 2025!! SHIT IS REAL!!!

…what makes me really mean "I’m good” is when I’m fully connected with that truth, and I can allow that to be present in our connection as well.

So, when it comes to relating with people with whom we WANT to be more intimate, what now?

INTIMACY PIE:

ingredients:

• ownership over the desire to go deeper

• self awareness/self-connection

• curiosity

• clarity around what helps you feel safe (and giving it to yourself or asking for it)

• willingness to be vulnerable (and potentially uncomfortable)

• capacity to feel fear

• capacity to feel Love

You know, just some simple everyday ingredients! ;)

Please- I know. This is tender! The MOST tender! Believe me- intimacy and depth might be my jam but I’m also full of my own edges and so totally on my own growth path around it all.

But I am so committed to this path for myself because, frankly, I find life rather unfulfilling and uninteresting when I’m lacking connection to my personal and relational depth.

This is such a rich topic and I feel tension between my sensitivity to the modern day attention span and all the many places I could go.

So, just like intimacy grows gradually one moment and breath at at a time, I’ll let this email be just one exhale among many more. An invitation inhale and ask yourself-

• Am I satisfied with the quality of my relationships?

• If not, what do I experience when I’m engaging in those relationships?

• Is there a relationship where I feel a lack of depth that I’d love bring some growth to?

• How do I want to feel when I’m in connection?

I suppose these questions hit that first ingredient in the Intimacy Pie: ownership over the desire to go deeper. Step 1.

I find that so much of my mojo for activating transformation comes from my direct connection to my desire.

slightly vulnerable note: I’ve been on a long road of uncoupling my own Yearning from the feeling of Sadness. Allowing my Yearning to sit in it’s pristine existence on my altar in it’s own place, with Queen of the Emotions Sadness well expressed and in her own too.
