I’ve been listening all week to this INCREDIBLE book called Stolen Focus by Johann Hari.

It’s such a pleasure to listen to audiobooks that are narrated by the author- I love hearing Johann’s passion in his quest for learning through personal experimentation and extensive scientific reporting about the impact that big tech has on our ability to focus, enjoy *flow state*, and be here now.

He traverses the tech science world and writes about the teams of top level psychologists, scientists and tech engineers who have designed the internet (in particular, social media) to keep. us. addicted. To keep scrolling.

Do we stand a chance against their initiatives???

DO WE????

Well…CERTAINLY only if we try.

Listening to the book has been super inspiring and affirmative around the value of my current project Clearing The Field.

My own journey and personal experimentation has led me to accept that taking regular extended breaks from social media / other tech habits is an integral part of keeping them in check.

FYI: Perhaps social media isn’t your thing but you have some other digital habit- we have one gal in the group who doesn’t have a social media habit but is joining us with the intention to take a month off of online shopping!

Lemme do what I do best, and give it to you straight:

Tech wellness is very akin to how we relate to food or exercise.

You can’t go to the gym once and expect strong muscles to stay, you can’t take one day off sugar and expect long term benefits.

AAAAND…!

Making healthy choices for stints of time help us deepen our knowing of what feels best for our bodies, minds and souls.

We remember how good we feel when we engage in positive habits.

That is my hope for Clearing The Field…that it will give you a solid dose of how it feels to have more mental and emotional space freed up without engaging in the infinite scroll.

…which can in turn serve as a touchstone, a reminder through experiencing, that taking breaks of making shifts to tech habits in the future is something worthwhile and supportive.
