Dear Community, I didn’t wake up where I thought I’d wake up this morning. I’m in somebody else’s house, I’m alone. Where am I? Do you ever have that experience when you’re traveling…in the literal second upon shifting from sleep into waking consciousness where you ask “where am I, what’s going on in my life right now”? or perhaps my sleepy brain barely rustled from sleep just internally goes… “‘sup?” When A Twist Becomes A Turn A few days ago, my house unexpectedly turned into an inhospitable construction zone. I’ll spare the details as I don’t want them to distract from things I find more interesting to explore with you today. Unexpectedly, I sought refuge for a few nights with a bestie with a spare room, which was lovely, nutritive, and heartwarming. We watched Dirty Dancing WHICH I’D NEVER SEEN BEFORE. and thanks to cosmic alignment, another bestie happens to be out of town for the week and I’m now at her place in La Cañada. So, of course when I had to flee my house the immediate vibe is UH OH, crisis, drama, inconvenient, hassle, unknowns, etc But PRETTY QUICKLY I realized, wait a second….I’m actually really into this! I tried looking for a newsletter I must’ve written over a year ago - I can’t find it - maybe I never sent it - that happens btw - But I remember writing a newsletter from the daybed, sharing about my interest in finding housesitting opps in LA. Sort of staycation, sort of shake things up, sort of get out of my routines, grooves and comfort zones. And here I am. Absolutely delighting in this OPPORTUNITY to create a special retreat experience for myself in this new environment. so. Embracing The Pattern Disruptor Last night I went on the hike that is a half mile around the bend and up the road. BOY DID I NEED THAT AND NEED MORE OF THAT. Being in nature is always medicine, and medicine I am particularly drawn to in a very deep way at this time. I enthusiastically plan to go on this hike every evening I can this week. My morning routine ebbs and flows, I love experimenting with different rituals over time. Lately I’ve been in a very laid back morning cacao + read the good newsletters in my inbox routine. But this morning?? Well, I’ve woken up in the house of probably the most disciplined of all of my close friends. Well actually, I would say her discipline is day by day only becoming more devotional than disciplined, and ceremonial rather than routine. EVERY morning she starts her day with about an hour of a morning practice - meditation, writing and yoga. I admire and celebrate her devotional way of greeting the new day! and this morning I did literally the most micro version possible. I did 5 minutes of each immediately upon waking and LET US NOT BE SURPRISED every minute of it felt great. An Urban Retreat I’m enthusiastically saying yes to dancing with this opportunity that emerged from the pattern disruptor - I am a YES to this week (or more) being a chance to live a slightly (or profoundly) different life, just 15 min from my house. My closest relationships are of course my greatest teachers, and this week I say yes to the invitation offered by the frequency of this house, to the MWY morning practice (meditation writing yoga). I say Yes to this opportunity to take different walks, approach life from different angles, and enjoy the fruits that are already growing from this experience. I Am Your Plants Fairy Godmother I will absolutely, proudly, and consistently toot my own horn wherever I see fit. I am a plant mommy, and your plants will love me too. Wherever you live (outside of LA too!), if you are taking a trip and might love someone to care for your plants and tend to your home with impeccable loving care, think of me and reach out! I’d love to create more opportunities to shake up my routine and create private retreat experiences outside of my own home.
