Dear Community, It’s almost been a year since I received the spark of inspiration to birth Quiet Altar (my new decluttering + organizing offering). I’m quietly finding my voice in the space and how to express why exactly I feel so passionate about this practice and how deep it can be. A couple weeks ago when I freestyled a workshop at a retreat called * Relating To Your Home As A Sacred Space *, I found myself saying to the group that our homes say SO much about us — and it’s not just a matter of design.. It’s fascinating to see how what a home holds how it’s tended to speaks volumes about what is going on in someone’s inner world. I worked with a client recently who said “I literally put things in my own way”. There were boxes and piles and bags scattered all around the room we were working on, and she could see how this mirrored how she gets in the way of the life she wants to live. Other houses will show picture perfect presentation, then pull back the curtain and there’s overflowing chaos. (Honestly, I think a lot of us have that going on). There’s a matter of stuff and things and how it’s stored and organized or not stored and organized, but then there’s the topic of WHAT we’re holding onto! I learn soooooo much about myself and others, as I witness what things we hold onto and why. Since I weave a practice of ongoing inquiry with my objects into my life (aka I declutter regularly), I see myself changing before my own eyes, as I watch myself let go of things that I wasn’t willing to before. What changed? (Hint: I did.) Listen, I’ll never be a minimalist — I love things. but for real — it just feels SO good to live in a space where what I keep is thoughtful, intentional and supportive of the life I want.
