Hello Friends! ♡ Are you wintering well? I’m high-key getting more obsessed with The Culture Of Seasons. I’m so glad I went to upstate NY in early December and got the chance to feel the cold, touch the snow, stoke the fire, stir the soup, and really feel the essence of Winter. After soooooo many years of being so utterly resistant to Winter/Cold weather, I so enjoyed being there and feeling into the spirit of the season. I suddenly thought —wait, wtf — so I’ve NEVER in my adult life had a PROPER WINTER? That never before sounded like a bad thing, but all of sudden it sounded absurd — which reflected my longing for a fuller spectrum. I’m curious what will die inside of me and what will be born when I do once again find myself living in the 4 seasons. and what in me continues to live “just well enough” in weather thats year round temperate? Being back here in LA I’ve been reminding myself not to forget. I don’t want to forget about the medicine of Winter. IT’S WINTER, AND I CHOOSE WINTERING! Yin. Reflection. Inwardness. Dreaming. Rest. Speaking Of Wintering… You may remember that last January I guided a group container called CLEARING THE FIELD in which 18 of us took a 1-month break from social media. It included zoom calls and a whatsapp group thread where I offered a Question Of The Day for self inquiry and reflection, and we shared other resources with one another. I’m SO glad I did it, but I didn’t feel called to replicate the same container again. Toooo mannnny ggrrooouuupp zzooooooomms! 🫠 So I decided to do my own thing this January, and do the same protocol I did last year — no social media and no phone in the bedroom for the whole month. And then…I didn’t. Nope!! I sure did not!! I’ve been dancing with my algorithm and staring at my phone in the time before I sleep and upon waking up allllll mooonth. Basically when I realized “it wasn’t the right time” Jan 1 — I pushed it to Feb. and that felt and continues to feel right. AND THEN YESTERDAY… I thought, I wonder if anyone else would like to join me in this practice? So I restructured Clearing The Field because DAMN do I believe DEEPLY in the goodness of taking breaks from scrolling. Instead of doing a group model, I’m offering one-on-one 30 minute zoom calls, just you and me, once at the beginning of the month, once in the middle, and once at the end. I’m offering you what I didn’t have in January — containment, accountability, encouragement. I’m not only your extremely enthusiastic cheerleader, but you will also get to feel the genuine camaraderie in our field, as you’ll know I’m also walking the same path.
