Ooooohhhh my goodness. I have been bursting with things to say, and I’ve been saying nothing. What’s up with that?! Not sure but I’ve been thinking about all y’all and wanting to open back up to connection. Last night I recorded the 6th “episode” of my voice memo pod, Memos with Mari Mu — in case you don’t know bout that, it’s me walkin’ round with my phone in my hand recording you a long-ass voice memo direct from the streets…or woods…or my couch…unpolished, unedited (apologies ;) but the whole point is that it’s unfiltered, direct, honest and not too precious. There’s enough “perfectly edited” content out there after all ;) What’s With The Clothing Rack Photo So as I continue to grow/develop Quiet Altar, a… soul project? brand? business? geared toward helping people cultivate homes that are beautiful, sacred spaces that aren’t full of stuff that doesn’t serve us, I am an utter and total nerd for exploring my own relationship with stuff and things. I’ve said it before, I love things. I love well-made high-quality objects and textiles and colors and textures…I’ll never be a real “minimalist” but I’m grateful to be minimalist inspired ;) Big thank you to my closest friends who have listened me in voice memo format talk for a total of HOURS over the past months about my own deliberations around my stuff, my ongoing decluttering journey and for this 3-month stint in the Hudson Valley, what was I going to pack. So I came with TWO large checked suitcases, and my trusty rollie carry-on which is the only thing I’ve traveled with for over 10 years. I wanted options!!!, and needed to pack for 2 seasons. and you better believe, I brought them, and of course I haven’t worn everything I brought! That would be crazy, please. So of course, what I brought were my favorite things. Spanning from SUMMER TO FALL, it’s a nice collection! — and then back in LA there are 3 full bins of other clothes. I’ve been really curious how this 3-month stint will affect my attachments to the belongings I’ve left behind. and then a couple weeks ago I had a radical idea — If I Can’t Remember It, I Can’t Keep It I started to make a list in a doc — yes, Level 10 Nerd. I’m making a list of the clothes that are stored back in LA that I know I’m gonna keep — and whatever I can’t think of — I’m getting rid of. 😮 😳 What’s been fun is there’s already a category on the doc of stuff I can remember, that I already feel that I’ve detached from after being here and is an auto let-go. Ok ok ok for one thing — some of this just makes sense- I’ve been living in URBAN CALIFORNIA for 13 years and I’m about to move to RURAL NEW YORK. So that’s a different category of lifestyle. I’m going to be going to more farm parties and potlucks than style-heavy parties. (lol as if I’ve done much of that in the past handful of years…) but also — it’s just cool to be experiencing LIVE ACTION DETACHMENT IN PROCESS! Of course of course, I’m sure there will be a few garments that I will be like OMG I’m SoOOoOOO sorry I forgot you and of course I’m keeping you honey here let’s hang you back up …. but there’s no doubt My Biggest Closet Purge Ever is upon me! and I’m excited to clear space, be honest about what I actually wear, and carry less energetic weight in my home.
