Dear Community, I’ve been writing you for over 2 years. Sometimes more consistently, sometimes less. Inspired by some of the newsletters I receive, I have thought many times about the idea of choosing a day of the week and committing to a weekly writing practice. I think…what day of the week would be the right fit for the spirit of my newsletter? The internet says things about “best time to send emails”…things like Tuesday mornings. Honestly though I just don’t think I’m a Tuesday morning kind of girl. I think I’m more of a weekend digest, and although *everyone* recommends sending emails in the morning, let’s be honest: I’m a night owl, I love the after dark, starlight and candlelight, and I kind of like the idea of giving people who might be staring at their screens anyway something personal, heartfelt and more longform than an instagram caption to read once they’ve settled in to a couch position for the night. In the meantime…I’ll write you spontaneously while I dream of consistently :) Today I’m sharing the emails/newsletters that I regularly read. There are 3 newsletters in particular that I receive on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays that I look forward to, and read every week without fail. Every Saturday morning I wake up and read Allie Hoffman’s “Stories by Allie” substack. She’s based in NY, the email goes out somewhere in the 10am’s over there, so it’s always ready and waiting when I wake up in the 7’s in Cali. Allie is the founder of The Feels, an IRL event for singles in NY, LA, SF, DC. I’ve never been to one of their events, but I really love what they’re up to, and so appreciate reading Allie’s personal shares about her own journey with dating and relationships, and her explorations on related topics. On Mondays I read Cody Cook-Parrott — they have been writing a newsletter since 2012, weekly since 2017. Cody is just fantastic. Such an inspiration and a consistently evolving expression of creative force. They are an artist, dancer, writer and visionary. I’ve had the pleasure of receiving some creative advising sessions from Cody which were a total blast and super supportive. Fridays my friend Lara Green sends a short and sweet email that never fails to go straight to my heart. The first word that comes is Comfort. The second word Soul. Comfort and Soul, delivered weekly. Lara and I first met on a jungle pathway in Costa Rica 18 years ago, only to find out that we grew up in the same area in upstate NY. She is a mother and a yoga teacher in my hometown, and I really think that you don’t even need to know her personally to feel the medicine of her gentle and easy to digest weekly words. There are other newsletters I read intermittently — I’m a consistent superfan of The Psyche’s newsletter - they share an exceptional collection of articles that are deep, diverse and thought provoking. There are many others I read very occasionally, and more yet to be discovered. I’ve only linked three above, but I’ve included a few more on a page on my site, just cuz I’ve heard that if we use too many links in an email it might go to spam.
