Dear Community,

I’ve been planning to write this email for quite a while. There’s sort of been this sense that for such “big personal news” I should really be in my feels and make it a ceremonial grade writing sesh but…it keeps just…escaping me.

So here I am. Midafternoon on a Sunday and just cuz I’m in the mood to tip tap type.

It’s Been A Long Time Coming.

So before I lived in LA, I was heavily nomadic — I lived in the mountains outside of Santa Cruz for one year before coming here, but before that, from age 18-26 I spent no more than 7 months in one spot before journeying on.

So — when I moved to LA, I didn’t expect to settle in. I thought I’d experience a year in the city, and then, obviously, move to nature. I thought maybe I’d end up in Topanga after one year of playing in the city. I do think I would’ve loved living there, but it never happened.

I’ve been a capital e Eastsider for 13 years and counting. Echo Park to Eagle Rock to now almost 10 years living in this sweet house in Glassell Park.

I was 27 when I moved here and I’ll be 40 when I leave. LA is where I grew into an adult.

I love it here. Wait — I’m tangenting, back to: it’s been a long time coming.

Yeah- so remember when I thought I was gonna spend a year in the city and then move to nature?

Oops, blip in the time space continuum and guess what the time is now.

I think the truth is I’m going to need to write several emails to properly close out this epic chapter in the City Of Angels, but we can consider this the trailer.

I’m Moving To The Hudson Valley

Honestly? I cannot f*cking believe it. I’m moving to somewhere with… UM… WINTER???

*ACTIVATE MIXED FEELINGS*

but wow- after so many years…of wondering…where am I gonna go?

The Calling Came.

I will probably keep saying more on that later because this process has been almost a year in the making and there are many mini chapters that landed me in this decision.

How It’s Gonna Go:

I’m starting with a 3 month sublet, leaving LA August 1st. I’ll generate community, get to know the area, and clarify what town(s) I would most want to live.

Then, I’ll come back to LA November 1st and it’s highly likely that I’ll spend the winter here and make the big move in the spring (smarter than a mid-winter move, right?) but also — for the first time in a while, I’m opening up and saying Hey Great Spirit I’m kind of down to be lovingly twirled by Mystery and I’m open to the timeline and trajectory shifting morphing and perhaps surprising me.

As another modern self-obsessed millennial I spend A LOT of time thinking about this process…the ending of a long form era of my life, and the preparation for big change.

There is so much I’m going to miss about LA and California — AND, I’m so grateful that I feel this unwavering calling to soil where I’m meant to grow roots.

SO:

I really hope to spend a lot of special, sacred, and beautiful times with the LA people before I go…

I’ll likely host a few gatherings when the time is really coming near, but in the meantime, let’s spend one-on-one time together in one way or another:
