Dear Community ♡ Happy FSM!!! (Fresh Start Monday) A weekly new beginning! ;) I now have one month before I leave LA to spend 3 months in the Hudson Valley in upstate NY. My schedule is more packed than normal over the coming weeks, scattered with those last minute to-do’s, and of course, because I am me and a packed schedule means there’s always time built in for laying on the floor, laying on the couch, laying in the sauna, and laying in the daybed, I am enjoying soaking up these times to be in the familiarity, coziness and groundedness of HOME before I go live the suitcase life for a few months. I’m also engaging in a “new fun game” of Trying-To-Eat-The-Food in my fridge, freezer and pantry to clear space for my subletter and eat good food before it goes bad. What I’m Thinking/Feeling I am excited, and I’m nervous. I’m nervous that I’m not going to “take” to upstate NY. I am CLEAR that I don’t belong in LA for my elder years — that I belong in nature, with my feet on the earth, and I’m praying/hoping that I really love it there and feel a yes to The Big Move. Being that I’ve flown to upstate NY every summer for the past 21 years since I left home, I know how it’s going to feel when I land. The adjustment to the humidity is always an…adjustment (Honestly I LOVE the dry heat out here!), but the luscious overflowing countryside, green leaves galore, wildflowers and sweeping sounds of insects, birds and wind in the trees do their magic on me and feel OH so good. I feel really ready for this. I feel really ready to experience something different, and go back into Explorer / I’m new here energy. I Just Moved Here Energy My friend Molly and I for years have referenced “I just moved here” energy. We both experience this hyper expanded state of social openness when we move to a new place — it’s such a wonderful conversation opener, and there’s this precious innocence to it. I don’t KNOW who I am in that place yet, I haven’t cemented myself into some identity or how I fit into that community, and there’s something really freeing about that for me. I have noticed once I live in a place for a while, I go around town a bit (a lot) more “here on business” — on a mission to the grocery store, on a mission to wherever else I’m going. A lot of what I’ll be doing in my 3 months is exploring all the towns and little hamlets of the Hudson Valley and checking it all out, feeling into where exactly I might want to settle (the truth is— where I want to settle will MOSTLY be contingent on where my friends are — I want to be somewhat close to people so that we can do the cute wholesome dinners and walks of my hearts desire). ..but I do have questions about — do I want to live closer to town, or more out in the country? How many minutes to “town” is my limit? I grew up 10 minutes to downtown Ithaca (out in the country, in the woods), and it felt FAR AWAY. Like going to town felt like a big deal in some way. Not something you’d ideally do more than once a day if possible. But…I wonder — how will it feel different after 20 years in Cali (and 13 in LA) where 10 minutes feels VERY close, and also is generally a more unpleasant drive (cars everywhere!) vs a peaceful country road surrounded by trees. We’ll see.
