Dear Community ♡ I have written less in the past few weeks. I feel that my body and mind are matching the season: Early Spring. A lot going on inside of me. So much potential energy in buds barely beginning to open. Spring is my birth season and my favorite season. Give me the warmth, Give me the later evenings, Give me the flowers. I will bow on cue and with devotion. with a curtsy if you wish!! Just give me my Spring and I will do the dance!! I was in Joshua Tree assisting a healing retreat last weekend. Retreats continue to be my favorite thing ever. This was my 3rd time assisting this same one, and it’s been really cool to see 3 different groups of people moving through pretty much the same formula of process and getting to witness both the efficacy of the program and the unique magic that different groups of people create. I’ve written about it a bit before, but these retreats invite you to bring a part of yourself that you have a hard time loving/accepting, and spend the weekend inviting this part coming to life, expressing itself fully, both in its pain and its wisdom. Y’all know I love a space where people are dropping the masks and bringing the unfiltered truth of their experience. I am proud to stand tall in the Fuck The Fake Bullshit and Please Bring the Fullness of your Humanity Camp. Okay so on the Saturday of the retreat we went into the park for a hike - I successfully made it into the right car for me - The Quiet Car. We drove in almost silence into the park, and once we hit the trail I asked if everyone was okay with me peeling off and going solo ahead of them. One of my favorite things is being alone in nature. Anyway, back to the subject line I’m attempting to sync with. So over this past year I’ve been really embracing my identity as a creative, a creator, an artist. I don’t make much physical art (though I love creating physical environments dripping in multi-sensory ambiance and curating fab outfits) - but I’ve been reminding myself that an artist doesn’t need to fit into the confines of what we classically consider “art” to be - physical art, dance, music, etc… Let my Life be the masterpiece, and Experience being the medium. and let me tell you- just like any artist or creative might tell you- creative blocks are a thing and I too am no stranger to stagnancy. On this hike in Joshua Tree as I moved my body along that trail, having a quite direct experience with the divinity of the natural world, with inspiration spilling out of my mind, I had an enough-is-enough moment. Here’s the deal: I have a LOT of ideas that have already been born that could use some nurturing to come to life - but: Enough is Enough - there is basically no use in me trying to sit at a the computer and try to “brainstorm” or “flesh out ideas”. I MUST be in motion to stoke my creative fire. Even driving (on a looong open road, not inside the city) can suffice for me, but getting my body moving is the realest ticket. There is an entirely different process I am in right now, inspired by my role as guide and contributor in a group that I am holding for the Spring season, Reverence In Motion. As we explore an initial theme of S P A C E , I have adopted a regular practice of sweeping my property, as an act of embodying a role I adore: Temple Keeper. AND LET ME TELL YOU…. OMG. It turns out SWEEPING was what I’ve needed all my life!!!!! I am literally floored at how this ritual motion has been stirring up and moving so much inside of me. I mean, listen, I’ve done a lot of sweeping in my life - but doing the act as a devotional practice has deepened its reach into my well of soulful creativity. The simplicity of the movement is soothing and is simultaneously filled with a million metaphors that I have no interest in putting into words. Anyway- all of this to say - consider me sweeping outside being the new sitting at the altar of my Creative Fire. May this email be an invitation to play with movement and creativity, or spark inspiration to go outside and sweep and just see what happens. (disclaimer: sweeping may produce gentle emotional catharsis, bring deep breaths!)
